Christmas-time on the Range!  Times don't change much between today's ranch events and the bygone days of yesteryear.  I suspect the method of sending one of the cowhands out to pick a tree for "the Mrs." is much the same today as it was long ago.  No doubt, the children have been waiting in anticipation for the cowhand (or Daddy) to return with the tree and are the first to greet him.... mom and Grandma are coming out of the kitchen to welcome the rider home.  They've probably already got most of the Christmas fixin's ready for the big day tomorrow. 

Lots of sentimentality here, but that's what Christmas brings out in the best of us!
