"Mountain  Majesty"

This painting was created after a trip to the Winter Park area of Colorado.  We stayed at a condo nearby and spent the week going out each day, looking for wildlife and landscapes for paintings.  In this scene, we found both....!  The mountain in the distance is named "Indian Head Mountain" and can be seen from several locations south of  Estes Park. 

I was looking for a place to do some "plein air" painting and thought this spot might just be the one, but decided to go on up the dirt road a bit farther... around the next corner, we spotted, coming out of the dark green trees on the right side of this painting, a huge pair of bull moose!!  They were black as spades and had blue highlights on their backs... I'm really glad I went on, rather than stopping for this view.... once I was back in my studio in  Texas, however,  this  was the view I painted first.
