SYMBOLS  OF  THE  WEST

This is the view from the entrance to the Superstition Mountains in Arizona, near Phoenix.   It's an incredible landscape that becomes more interesting as you travel further up into the hills.  As I was painting this scene, I was reminded several times of how the areas of the scene represent all that we Americans consider "western". 

This painting is currently in Fredericksburg Art Gallery in Fredericksburg, Texas.  The contrasts in the colors are actually a bit stronger... I'll try to get a better photo the next time I'm in FBG!
